The Cultural Heritage Council of San Joaquin County
A 501(c) (3) Not for Profit Public Charities Corporation

The Vision of the Cultural Heritage Council of San Joaquin County is to create Cultural Tourism in the Region.

The mission of the Cultural Heritage Council of San Joaquin County is establishing one governing body for all cultural affairs. Through collaborative planning, community action, and policy advocacy, this Council will create well connected, informed and thriving communities
.

In early 2008, through the collaboration with local Cultural Performing Organizations known as P.L.A.Y a formal organizational structure was created to develop an overall vision for arts and cultural development and to outline the implementation of that vision County wide.

Another important theme is integrating the past, present, and future. As various communities in the region grow and renew themselves, the past still plays an important role in the richness of cultural life the San Joaquin County. What makes this region unique is its history.

Among the most significant highlights of our mission are:

  • Utilizing San Joaquin County’s cultural and ethnic diversity to strengthen communities.
  • Building on the full range of the region’s existing cultural assets for residents and visitors alike.
  • Expanding cultural educational opportunities.
  • Strengthening infrastructure (facilities and support organizations) to assist the cultural sector.
  •  Identifying adequate financial resources for a full range of cultural organizations and activities.

"We are enriched by the diversity of races and cultures in our County. Our future sucess is based on allowing each of our cultures to contribute to the mosaic."

Business Divisions

The Cultural Heritage Council has several business divisions:

Community Access Consulting provides high-level consulting and assistance to organizations seeking to access the many cultural groups of San Joaquin County and surrounding communities, for business and humanitarian purposes.  Currently we are serving the Adult Services Division of the County Human Services Agency to determine the feasibility of bringing up a 2-1-1 Information and Referral system in the County.

P.L.A.Y. Multicultural Arts Network is a division of the Cultural Heritage Council, devoted to the performing arts.

The Heritage Writers Community
provides a platform for serious writers to refine their work through critique sessions, shape their sense of marketplace through reports and discussions of the process of publication, and to present their work through our television series, as well as providing readings at retirement and care homes.

Culinary Arts Division
opens the door of the senses of taste, feel and smell of food to cultural appreciation.  Culinary art is the art of cooking and culinary artists are responsible for skillfully preparing meals that are as pleasing to the palate as to the eye. To get a feel for the beating heart of our community, and to begin to understand cultural differences, you must experience the food of each culture. The best way to experience the rich diversity and how food can reflect local culture is to sample different foods.

San Joaquin County Feasibility Study of 211 Information and Referral Service

The San Joaquin County Human Services Agency, with funding provided by Kaiser Permanente, has contracted with the Cultural Heritage Council of San Joaquin County to conduct a feasibility study to show how this system could be implemented in this county, to identify a lead agency to build and operate the system, identify possible funding, and to build support for its implementation.
